Prayers for Sale

Bonjour,

I thought today I would give you a "preview" of a book I just finished. It's title, Prayers for Sale, was written by author, Sandra Dallas. This novel takes place in Middle Swan, Colorado during the depression in 1936. It is the story of a women named Illa Mae who was given the nickname of "Hennie" and stories of her life in the small community that she shares with a newcomer named Nit, a young girl who moves to Middle Swan from Kentucky with her husband who is able to get a job on a dredge boat during the gold rush era. She happens by Hennie's house and sees a sign in her yard that says "Prayers for Sale" which is the start of a wonderful friendship between the two. I won't tell you why the sign is there only that it adds to the richness of the plot.

The stories Hennie shares with Nit will warm your heart as well as endear you too both of them in a time where struggles and hardship are a way of life for everyone. While work and money were hard to come by, it was a community that shared what little it had and found it's own justice for things wrongfully done to the people living there.

This is a wonderful book and the stories Hennie tells are heartwarming to say the least. This book has my seal of approval!!

Au Revoir
